Launch of our new website
17-02-2009
Welcome to the brand new Heritage website! We’ve brought together a host of information to inspire group travel organisers. Let us know what you think.
Our site carries company information and news but, more importantly, we hope it will be a valuable resource for new and existing clients.
Over the past 15 years we have arranged hundreds of tours. The regularly updated bulletins will allow us to share this wealth of information. We’ll post snippets of news to help spark some inspiration for future tours. Look out for new exhibitions and special events as well as features on the more practical aspects of travel such as law and finance. We’ll also be writing features on tours we’ve arranged on unusual themes and new destinations.
The tours and destinations pages carry detailed examples of the most successful recent tours to give ideas and inspiration for your own planning.
Of course these are simply examples - our tours are ultimately tailored to the needs, budget and interests of each individual group.
We hope you’ll keep coming back to the site as we update the news and events section on a regular basis and look forward to keeping in touch with you.
2009 - Twenty Years since the Fall of the Berlin Wall
17-02-2009
It is alarming to think that 20 years have passed since the fall of the Berlin Wall, bringing to an end 40 years of Cold War diplomacy between Eastern and Western Europe. For 2009 Berlin is hosting some spectacular exhibitions and events to mark the occasion. New specialist museums and landmark sites devoted to this period in German history have also established themselves in Berlin.
Of course Berlin is not just about the wall. We recently organised a trip for History Today magazine which explored a whole series of the tumultuous events in 20th Century Berlin. As with most Heritage trips, we included visits to the less well known places and the itinerary brought together a fine blend of art, architecture and political history.
2009 is the ideal time to discover or rediscover Berlin and we would be pleased to provide you with a series of inspiring ideas for a unique visit to help celebrate this 20th Anniversary. Please call us on 01225 466620.
Royal Academy Exhibition and a visit to Istanbul
17-02-2009
Many of you have already told us of your visit to the wonderful exhibition at The Royal Academy which traces 1,000 years of the splendours of Byzantium from 330-1453. Some 300 objects are on display, showcasing the artistic output of an Empire throughout its rise and its fall.
It closes on 22 March – so you still have time to go!
Byzantine Constantinople was fabulously wealthy with its legendary hippodrome, palaces and churches and much of this can still be seen in modern day Constantinople (Istanbul) which is European Capital of Culture 2010.
2010 is the perfect time to soak up more of this incredible period of history. The parks and gardens of the old city, the exquisite architecture of the sultans’ Topkapi Palace (housing treasures of the Ottoman Empire), and, of course, the famous Blue Mosque make this a special destination.
Istanbul offers a rich historical and artistic blend of the European and the Asian. The imposing Hagia Sophia, for example, began life as a Byzantine Cathedral, was later used as a mosque, and is now a museum. Other highlights which could be included in a tour are the Church of St Sergius & St Bacchus, Dolmabahçe Palace and the magnificent Mosaic Museum.

The simple way of ensuring you're protected financially
17-02-2009
Trade association AITO has unveiled a new travel industry Gold Standard with the launch of its 100% Financial Protection Campaign.
The minefield surrounding consumer protection on travel was brought into sharp focus last year with the collapse of XL and several other tour operators. Many people thought that they were covered when they weren’t, and the picture remains equally confused.
Some tour operators do not offer full protection on all of their activities. Flights booked direct with airlines still remain outside the scope of the law. Heritage Group Travel are proud to have been admitted to AITO (the Association of Independent Tour Operators) which offers 100% fully financially protected holidays. This protection offered by AITO members is well in excess of legal requirements and is far superior to that offered by some travel associations, which have been diluted in recent years. If you book a tour with an AITO member you are fully covered. It’s as simple as that!
